J. Nathan Rainy Chief, a member of the Kainai First Nation in Southern Alberta and descendant of prominent Blackfoot leaders including Rainy Chief and Chief Red Crow, carries a legacy deeply connected to the history of Treaty 7. His heritage also links him to Rosie Davis, his great-great-grandmother born in 1877, a celebrated beadwork artist and the longest-living tribe member, and to Chief Charlie Davis, as well as influential Alberta trading post owners like D.W. Davis and John J. Healy. Honored in 2023 with the Indigenous Business Builder Series award by Aboriginal Community Futures, Nathan has expanded 49 Design internationally, earning recognition in the Wall Street Journal. After founding a successful online business, he opened 49 Dzine’s first physical store in Calgary in 2020, followed by a second location in Edmonton in 2021, marking his company’s growing presence in retail.
